Nigerian Folorunsho Alakija Now The Richest Black Woman In The World, Unseats Oprah

Nigerian oil tycoon, Mrs. Folorunsho Alakija, is now the richest black woman in the worldwith an estimated fortune of $7.3billion.Mother of four, Alakija, 62, unseats Winfrey as the richest black woman in the world. According to Forbes, Oprah Winfrey is worth $2.9 billion. Africa boasts 55 billionaires and they’re worth a staggering$143.88 billion in total, according to pan-African magazine Ventures Africa. Alakija started her career as a secretary in a bank in the mid 1970s. She then studied fashion in London and returned to Nigeria to start a label, Supreme Stitches. But her biggest break came in oil. In 1993, her company, Famfa Oil, was awarded an oil prospecting licence, which later became OML127, one of Nigeria’s most prolific oil blocks. The company owns a 60-per-cent stake in the block, valued at around $7.3 billion, Ventures Africa has reported. Source: music212

2015 Presidential Election: INEC Releases Names Of Presidential Candidates

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has released the names of the presidential candidates and their running mates who will contest the 2015 elections. Although there are 26 registered political parties in Nigeria, only 11 have submitted names of candidates to run for the presidency. The ruling Peoples democratic party, PDP, submitted the names of President Goodluck Jonathan and his vice, Namadi Sambo, while the main opposition All Progressives Congress, APC, submitted the names of Muhammadu Buhari and Yemi Osinbajo as presidential and vice presidential candidates. Others are Oluremi Sonaiya and Saidu Bobboi for Kowa Party, Ambrose Albert and Haruna Shaba for Hope Democratic Party, Ganiyu Galadima and Balarabe Ahmed of Allied Congress Party of Nigeria,ACPN, Rafiu Salau and Clinton Cliff Akuchie for Alliance for Democracy, AD and Godson Okoye and Haruna Adamu, forUnited Democratic Party, UDP.Others are Nani Ibrahim Ahmad and Obianuju Murphy-Uzohue of African Democrati

Two children die as church takes Christmas party to hotel

Two children died during a Christmas party organised by Christ Apostolic Church Ijoyin, Ile Ife in Osun State. It was gathered on Monday that the church had organised a programme for youths  of the church at Amusement recreational  park  in Ibadan but the trip landed the youths at JMT Events & Hotel Osogbo on December 23rd. ‎The victims are Ayomide Fagbola and Ifeoluwa who were both 16-year-old.Ifeoluwa, who was said to be a student at St.Mulumba Catholic College,Lagere Ile-Ife, reportedly died inside the swimming pool during the programme.‎ It was confirmed by a top security personnel that the pastors of the church have been arrested by the Osun State Police Command. One of the mothers of the dead victim, Mrs Roseline Fagbola refused to accept that her child is dead. She insisted that the pastor and his wife should produced his child. See more at Dailytimes

PlayStation finally back online

Sony has announced that its PlayStation Network is back online after a three-day hack-attack, but millions of users are still experiencing problems. On Monday morning, the service suffered connection problems for the fourth day in a row following the attack, allegedly by a hacker activist group known as Lizard Squad. PlayStation Network, which has 110million accounts worldwide was attacked by the group, which also targeted Microsoft Corp's Xbox Live,on Christmas Day. 'We are currently experiencing widespread network issues that are being addressed,' Sony said in a statement on PlayStation's maintenance website. In a blog post Saturday night saying service had been restored, Sony vice president Catherine Jensen added that 'PlayStation Network and some other gaming services were attacked over the holidays with artificially high levels of traffic to disrupt connectivity and online gameplay.' Patience Jonathan begs voters not to abandon his husband

The First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan, has enlisted the support of voters in Abia State and the South-East in general for the re-election bid of her husband, President Goodluck Jonathan. Patience, who was speaking at a reception organised for her by her maternal kinsmen of Ohuhu clan in Umuahia North Local Government Area of Abia State, said a vote for Jonathan would guarantee sustainable transformation of the country. She was also honoured with the chieftaincy title of ‘Nkalari’ at the event, which also doubled as a fund raiser and ground-breaking ceremony of Ohuhu Civic Centre. Mrs. Jonathan noted that her husband had the interest of Ndigbo and Nigeria at heart, saying that he had demonstrated enough commitment to give the people of the South-East a sense of belonging.
