Boko Haram militants 'kidnap up to 40 young mothers near to the village where 250 schoolgirls were seized'

Suspected Boko Haram gunmen kidnapped at least 20 young mothers near a town in northeast of Nigeria where more than 200 schoolgirls were abducted nearly two months ago. News of the abduction came after gunmen from the militant group slaughtered hundreds of villagers in the north-east of the country. There were conflicting reports of how many women were abducted from the nomadic settlement near Chibok in Borno state, with one local leader putting the number as high as 40. The latest kidnappings, which happened on Saturday in and around the village of Garkin Fulani, five miles from Chibok, were the latest in a spate in the area. 'Available information revealed that the gunmen came around noon and abducted 20 women and three young men left to keep watch on the village,' said Alhaji Tar, of a local vigilante group. Three Feared Dead As Sanusi Receives Staff Of Office

Three people were feared dead and scores of others injured in Kano when supporters of the first son of the late Emir of Kano and those of the former Central Bank of Nigeria Governor Lamido Sanusi clashed in the city on Monday. The clashes which were later brought under control by security operatives took place shortly before Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso presented Sanusi with a letter of appointment and staff of office as the Emir of Kano. Areas where the pro and anti-Sanusi protesters had a face-off at about 10.30am were the Emir Palace Road and Kofar Nassarawa. The youth made bornfires on the roads in Kofar Nassarawa and on both sides of the Emir Palace Road before heavily armed policemen arrived and dispersed them. Some minutes after, they regrouped and attacked one another. Police however reinforced and cordoned off the roads. Boko Haram Members killed During Fierce Battle With The Nigerian Military

According to a press release by the military yesterday, over 50 terrorists were killed in Borno.The terrorists who were on their way to attack selected communities were ambushed by troops along Bilta, Borno state on receiving intelligence report of the terrorists’ intention. The attack was launched on the terrorists as they filed out of the forest to embark on their mission at about 10pm on Saturday. Over 50 terrorists died in the fierce encounter that ensued, while 30 rifles, 36 Hand Grenades, 7 Machine guns and 11 Rocket Propelled grenade tubes were captured by the troops. Also recovered from the terrorists were over 3,500 rounds of ammunition, 6 smoke grenade canisters and locally fabricated guns as well as 4 vehicles used by the terrorists in the foiled attack.
