                           To become a Babaláwo (father of secrets) is not an easy task and never going to be an easy task. It takes some ten years of serious learning and process to become a prolific and highly versed one, it takes some 20 years, it even takes some five years depending on how fast and sharp your intellectual ability is to learn and even for such long years of practice, they still learn more from colleagues, friends because Ifá learning is dynamic and never has an end.     The training of a Babaláwo goes beyond reading E-books, books, manuals, websites, blogs even beyond this current write-up you reading. It is best learned practically at an already made fully-fledged Babaláwo who also had learned from a skilled Babaláwo. It however requires total devotion, attention, and time of the trainee because having 256 Odù(verses) with at least five per-verse is not that funny...

A babalawo performing Ebo riru Credit: F.O.B Ẹ bọ is of the essence of the Ifá religion or let me say Yoruba religion as it is of every religion of the world has ever known. Unless we want to run away from the fact, every religion offers Ẹbọ to the Supreme Being one way or the other.   For example, the Muslims go on 30-days fasting, and after, they offer a ram as a sacrifice (ẹbọ).  The Christians also offer Chicken whenever it is Christmas. These are all forms of Ẹbọ whether we like it or not.

Ifa we all know is a very complex practice that requires a well-trained and endowed practitioner PKA Babalawo to understand and translate just for the main purpose of revealing and proffering solutions to mankind's problems.

There is always at least a reason behind every ebo. Reason which most of the time boils down to the fact that the person who offers the ebo wants to eliminate, perhaps find lasting solution to.  People offer ebo for longevity, for wealth, well-being, for spouse, as regard their place of work only to mention a few among several reasons.

It is one thing to unveil a problem and another thing to proffer solution to such problem.  Ebo as it is generally reckoned with, is the key not only to prayer-answering but also a delicate procedure to solve a spiritual problem no matter how deteriorating it could be.  Bearing in mind the delicate approach to Ebo, a Babalawo must understand the nitty-gritty as regards ebo.  He must know or select the right sacrificial items corresponding with what Ifa sees during divination.  For example, when IFA sees Ire aiku for a client, it is the duty of the Babalawo to know all the sacrificial items related to ire aiku not selecting ire Aje items for it.  However, this short article tells you the sacrificial items for every problem or goodness Ifa foresees for you.
