So Sad: Seven die, 13 injured in Kogi auto crashes

No fewer than seven people died while 13 other victims sustained various degrees of injuries when the driver of a Toyota Hiace bus rammed into a Corolla car at Gidan-Bassa village along the Lokoja-Ajaokuta Highway on Monday. An eye witness said that the driver of the bus was trying to overtake the car when the bus ran onto it, killing seven and injuring 13 others out of the 20 people that were involved in the accident. Kogi State Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Commission, Mr. Godwin Omiko, confirmed the accident to journalists in Lokoja. He said that the accident involved a Toyota Hiace bus with number plate AKL 73 YP and a Toyota Corrolla car with number plate AA 264 SNA. According to him, 20 people were involved in the accident. He stated that the lifeless bodies of the victims had been deposited at the morgue of the Kogi Specialist and some other hospitals. Emir Sanusi Lamido Sanusi Set To Take 17 Year Old Fourth Wife

In an unconscious attestation to this truism, the Emir of Kano, Malam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi (Muhammadu Sanusi II), is set to take his fourth wife. The bridal candidate is  a 17-year- old beautiful daughter of the Lamido of Adamawa, Alhaji Muhammadu Barkindo Aliyu Musdafa. Sanusi ,an accomplished banker,who became the 14th Emir of Kano last June, is a respected Islamic Scholar, and his decision to take a new wife is in line with Islamic injunction which prescribes a maximum of four wives for those who can treat all of them equally. Already, Sanusi has three beautiful wives - Sadiya, Maryam and Rakiya. Like in ancient times when bonds between empires were deepened by marriages among royals and nobles across boundaries, the betrothal of the Adamawa princess to Emir Sanusi II may also be a move to deepen royal bond between Adamawa and Kano. Boko Haram Seizes Army Base in Borno State

On Saturday, January 4th, Boko Haram attacked and took over a multinational military base in Baga town, Borno State, BBC reports. The Multi-National Joint Task Force (MNJTF), comprises troops from Nigeria, Niger, and Chad. Many residents were killed in the town during the invasion, as the terrorists burnt down structures and attacked people indiscriminately. Those who escaped did so by fleeing the town via boat to Chad. Eyewitness accounts revealed that the soldiers fled during the invasion, causing further panic amongst residents. “We were woken up by heavy gunshots, and we couldn’t identify where the shots were coming from. They came through the north, the west and from the southern part of the town because the eastern part is only water. So, when we [went] towards the western part, we saw heavily armed Boko Haram men coming towards us. Indian Police Arrest 4 Nigerians Over Online Fraud

The Hyderabad police in India on Saturday January 3rd arrested four Nigerians including a woman over internet fraud. The police said they recovered a car, money and mobile phones from them. The accused, Peter Austin (29), Eboh Felix (26), Steffi Ebohon (24) and Uzaonicha Daniel Iwenwanne (26), reportedly contacted a student named Mohd Wasiuddin, and told him he’s won some money. The police said the gang managed to convince the unsuspecting victim to deposit money for registration, customs clearance, processing fees and other expenses. “Believing the gang members, Wasiuddin deposited about Rs. 35 lakh in different bank accounts operated from Gujarat, Rajasthan and Mumbai, only to realize later that it was fraud” the police in charge said. The police arrested the four Nigerians after posing as another victim and tracing their phone call data record and email conversations.
