World number one Novak Djokovic didn't seen to mind that his winning match against Spaniard Fernando Verdasco when a brave spectator popped the question to his girlfriend during the middle of the game. Djokovic had just prevailed over Verdasco to take the second set, held in the main court of the Rod Laver Arena, when the stadium's 'kiss cam' captured the heartwarming moment for thousands of tennis fans around the country. The 1,500 strong audience erupted into applause when the man popped the question- and waited with bated breath until she said yes. The camera panned to the happy couple, who celebrated the very public moment as many of the spectators in the arena stood to congratulate them with resounding claps. Amaechi: Jonathan not ready for free, fair elections

Governor Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State has alleged that President Goodluck Jonathan is not preparing for a free and fair elections. The governor, in a telephone interview with our correspondent in Abuja on Saturday, said that it was unfortunate that the President was preaching one thing but busy doing another. Amaechi wondered why the President was using soldiers to intimidate the people of the state and also terrorizing them. He was particularly referring to the use of armed soldiers to invade the Adoke Amiesimaka Stadium, located in Igwuruta-Ali in Ikwerre Local Government Area, ahead of President Goodluck Jonathan’s campaign rally in the stadium. He said the facility in the stadium was being upgraded and that there was no permission given to the Peoples Democratic Party to make use of the stadium, which he said is a state government property. Gunmen Destroy APC Governorship Campaign Venue In Rivers State

The National School Field, venue of an All Progressives Congress, APC, rally set to hold in Okrika Local Government area of Rivers State has been attacked by unknown armed men. DAILY POST gathered that the gunmen used explosives to destroy the stage, canopies, chairs and other arrangements made for the rally. The APC governorship candidate, Dakuku Peterside was billed to be in Okrika as part of his campaign trail in the state. In a distress call put to media houses in Port Harcourt, Director of Media and Publicity of Dakuku’s Greater Together Campaign Organization, Ibim Semenitari said the armed men struck as early as 3am this morning, leaving the venue in wreckage. Semenitari said the armed men shot sporadically to scare everyone working at the APC venue away before blowing the explosives. “It was burnt and not gutted by fire. The naira on Friday crashed against the United States dollar from 191 to 208 at the parallel market, otherwise known as the black market. The dollar sold for between N205 and N208 on the streets of Lagos, Abuja and other major cities in the country. The currency had exchange for between N188 and N191 on the streets of Lagos and other key cities on Wednesday and Thursday morning, dealers said. The latest fall in the naira’s value came less than two months after the Central Bank of Nigeria was forced to devalue the local currency by eight per cent from 155 to 168 against the dollar following the continued decline in the prices of crude oil in the international market. The fall in oil revenue, from which the nation derives 95 per cent of its foreign exchange, has led to a drastic reduction in the external reserves from which the CBN supports the naira. Pandemonium broke out yesterday in Mosan Okunola Local Council Development Area of Lagos State , when supporters of Peoples Democratic Party ( PDP ) senatorial candidate for Lagos West , Mr Segun Adewale allegedly attacked members of an independent campaign team of All Progressives ’ Congress ( APC) governorship candidate , Mr Akinwunmi Ambode. No fewer than ten vehicles were said to have been vandalised during the attack while one person was allegedly killed and five others wounded . Two of the victims are said to be lying critically ill in a private hospital as a result of the injuries sustained during the attack . It was gathered that supporters of the APC governorship candidate were distributing sourvenirs to residents during a neighbourhood to neighbourhood campaign rally when the PDP members who were passing by in their vehicles suddenly confronted them and started shooting sporadically . GEJ to campaign in Borno today

Two weeks after visiting the Boko Haram insurgency-ridden Maiduguri, Borno State, President Goodluck Jonathan will again visit the state to campaign for next month’s election. His previous visit was to the soldiers serving in the state in commemoration with the Armed Forces Remembrance Day. The President had severely been criticised in recent times for not visiting the crisis-torn North-East. Saturday PUNCH learnt that the President would unfold plans to tackle the Boko Haram militant sect during his campaign in the state. Meanwhile, the governor of Borno State, Kashim Shettima, on Friday appealed to his supporters and all citizens of the state not to show any form of disrespect to the President and his entourage during the campaign visit. Shettima made the call in a statement by his media aide, Mallam Isa Gusau.
