Synagogue Church of All Nations founder TB Joshua has been named ‘Yoruba man of the decade’, while Wole Soyinka was named ‘Yoruba man of the year’ and Chief Obafemi Awolowo as ‘Yoruba man of the century.’ by pan-Yoruba media outfit – IrohinOdua, the first Pan- Yoruba news outlet The Editorial Board Chairman of IrohinOdua, Prince Babatunde Adeleke in a statement said the three personalities were selected after ‘a careful consideration of the role each had played in the annals of Yoruba modern history regarding placing the Yoruba on the positive angle of global reckoning.

Naira hits N215 to dollar at BDC

The Naira on Friday depreciated by N5 to the a dollar as it traded N215 at the Bureau De Change segment of the official market. It also depreciated by N7 at the black market, selling at N217 to the dollar. A dealer, who preferred anonymity, told the News Agency of Nigeria in Lagos that the depreciation might be due to the closure of the Retail Dutch Auction System by the Central Bank of Nigeria. It was closed by CBN on Wednesday. NAN reports that the RDAS is a foreign exchange window at CBN, where the Bureau de Change and commercial banks buy forex. The dealer said the CBN’s decision, which was meant to control speculations, had made other currencies to be scarce. He added that dealers were left to source for forex only at the interbank market unlike in the past when they had three to four segments from where to buy. One of the policemen shot at the governorship rally of All Progressives Congress, APC, at Okrika, Rivers State, last Tuesday, pleaded with newsmen, yesterday, not to let his mother know he was among the casualties. He said: “I cannot talk to the press; I do not want my mother to see it in the papersthat I was among those shot. She might just die.” Three policemen and a civilian, who gave his name as Fred Ebe, a fisherman, were those at the orthopaedic ward of Braithwaite Memorial Hospital, BMH, when Vanguard visited yesterday. Some members of the medical team of All Progressives Congress, APC, who spoke on condition of anonymity at the hospital, said about 28 casualties were admitted, adding that five were for bullet injuries. The team said about five were policemen, and that one of them died on the day of the attack, adding that the other 23 were visiting the hospital for treatment. Non-Indigenes Of Lagos March To INEC Office To Demand PVCs

Some residents of Lagos State on Thursday marched to the state’s headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission at Yaba to demand the release of their Permanent Voter Cards. The protesters, who carried placards with inscriptions such as, “INEC deliberately hold our PVCs,” “Non-indigenes of Lagos State refuse to be disenfranchised,” “We want to vote, give us our PVCs,” had first converged on the Yaba Market before marching to INEC’s office. They were received by officials of the commission, led by the Resident Electoral Commissioner, Akin Orebiyi .Policemen from some police divisions in the state were also on hand to forestall a breakdown of law and order, as they formed a human shield around the INEC officials. The protesters, in their address, alleged that INEC was being partial in the distribution of the PVCs, adding that some officials of the electoral body had been compromised. An Alfa in the Badagry area of Lagos State,Fatai Afobaje, has been accused of conspiring with some security men in his area to kill his friend, Rafiu Suleiman.Police sources said after the 40-year-old was dead, Afobaje, along with five others, shared his remains among themselves forritual purposes.It was gathered that what remained of the late Kwara State indigene was recovered by men of the Nigeria Police Force on Monday, after an intensive search. The incident happened at Oko Agbonla, Magbon in the Badagry area.PunchMetro gathered that Afobaje and Suleiman had been friends for a long time,and the deceased had given a lot of money to the suspect.Afobaje was said to have conspired with the Chief Security Officer of the area, identified only as Tanko, to kill Suleiman on Friday.
