The figure, according to Mr Nwafor, was arrived at after the commission removed more than 4million people who did double registration from the initial list of 73.5 million Nigerians who had registered to vote. GEJ employs masses to stop Buhari from returning to power

Image
President Goodluck Jonathan on Tuesday tasked Nigerians to stop the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Maj. Gen. Muhamadu Buhari (retd.) from wining the February 14th presidential election. The president, who spoke in Osogbo at the presidential campaign of the Peoples Democratic Party said that Buhari would unleash more hardship and unnecessary punishment on Nigerians if he won the poll. Jonathan said that Buhari had an opportunity of ruling the nation as a military Head of State but failed to transform the nation. According to him, Buhari had the opportunity to ensure an effective mass transit system in the country but did not do anything about it. He said, “We have done reasonably well despite the challenges before us. All of you saw the train that just passed through this place now. We promised to resuscitate railway and we did it. All of you saw the train; we can even end the campaign with that. ” Those who are the opportunity to do it but d...

Charlie Hebdo First Cover Since Terror Attack Shows Prophet Muhammad

Image
The front cover of Wednesday’s edition of the French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo, the first since last week’s attack on its Paris offices that left 12 people dead, is a cartoon of the prophet Muhammad. The cover shows the prophet shedding a tear and holding up a sign reading “Je suis Charlie” in sympathy with the dead journalists. The headline says “All is forgiven”. Richard Malka was among the first to call for the magazine to continue functioning after nine of its contributors, including famed cartoonists Cabu and Wolinski and its publishing director, Charb, were gunned down last Wednesday by Chérif and Saïd Kouachi When asked whether that meant more cartoons of Mohammed, which have been a regular feature in the magazine until last Wednesday’s attack, he replied: “Naturally.” “We will not give in otherwise all this won’t have meant anything,” he told France Info radio on Monday, which broadc...

Boko Haram Loses 143 Fighters In Cameroon Clashes

Image
At least 143 Boko Haram fighters were killed in an attack on a military camp in Cameroon on Monday, a minister said, adding that it was the heaviest loss sustained by the Nigerian Islamist group in the country. In a statement, the Minister of Communications, Issa Tchiroma Bakary, said: “The terrorists … lost 143 lives and important warfare equipment made up of assault rifles of various brands, heavy weapons and bullets of all calibres”. “On the Cameroon side, we lost one life, the Corporal-Chef Bela Onana, as well as four wounded.” It was not immediately possible to independently verify the toll from the fighting near the northern town of Kolofata, Reuters reported. Cameroon’s army determines death tolls either visually, or by counting the number of vehicles it destroys and estimating how many militants each vehicle carried, a senior official in Cameroon’s Far North region told Reuters last month. Boko Haram, which has killed thousands in...

A teenage girl was stoned to death by her father and brother after bringing ‘dishonour’ to the family by meeting a boy from another village, police have claimed. Tragic Pratibha Khan was also strangled before her body was cruelly dumped in a field. The battered remains of the 19-year-old, whose face had been “smashed beyond recognition”, were found close to her home in the north of India. Shocked pal Alia Modi, 18, said: "I was walking home through the fields when I saw a body lying on the ground."It was covered in blood and when I looked at the face it was so badly damaged I didn’t recognise it as Pratibha’s. It was only later that I learnt who it was and I was simply horrified.” A police spokesman said: "The post-mortem report showed that while the cause of death was strangulation, it appeared that she had been repeatedly struck by bricks and stones. "Perhaps to hide her identity, some of the blunt force injuries to her fac...

Nwoko: Neither Jonathan nor Buhari will be the president

Image
A cleric, Prophet Anthony Nwoko, has said that neither President Goodluck Jonathan nor Gen. Muhammadu Buhari will be president after next month’s election. Nwoko had in 1993 prophesied the end of the military regime of former Head of State, Ibrahim Babangida, which came to be. Also in 1998, he prophesied that the late military ruler, Gen. Sani Abacha, would leave governance of Nigeria in a mysterious way. Briefing newsmen in Enugu yesterday on the state of the nation, he also lamented that the nation was turning very ungodly, saying, “I had told IBB in 1993 to leave office and it happened and in 1998, I prophesied that Abacha would leave office mysteriously, and you saw what happened.” Speaking on prospect of Jonathan’s reelection, Nwoko said, “In 2010, I told Nigerians that they should not expect much or any miracle from Jonathan. Now, in this coming election, Jonathan will only serve as John the Baptist and Buhari has not got any he...
