The All Progressives Congress has condemned the killing of the Emir of Gwoza, Alhaji Idrissa Timta, by suspected Boko Haram gunmen, saying it confirms the terror group as the enemy of the whole of Nigeria, rather than a group set up by some imaginary opposition political party or elites to bring down the Jonathan Administration. In a statement issued in Lagos on Sunday by its Interim National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the party said the atrocious killing of the Emir is the clearest indication yet that the Jonathan administration has misdiagnosed the Boko Haram menace from the onset. It recalled that when the indiscriminate activities of Boko Haram are placed side by side with others facts: that the group started in 2002 when Obasanjo was President and flared in 2009 when Yar’Adua was President, one would realize how deceitful and diversionary it is for anyone to portray is as an attempt to make Nigeria ungovernable under Jonathan. ”Boko Haram is not a northern response

The son of legend footballer,Pele, Edinho, 43, has been sentenced to 33 years imprisonment for laundering drug money. He admitted to being a drug addict but protested saying he was innocent of other charges. Edinho who played for Santos two decades ago is a goalkeeping coach at Santos and has served time in jail for drug trafficking before now.

A 40-year old housewife, Shola Afolayan, has been sent to Kirikiri Prisons in Lagos State after her husband absconded with a loan of N1.5million. PMNews reports that the mother of five kids stood as guarantor for her husband who borrowed N1.5 million from Mrs Chioma Ohaegbu to set up a business and promised to pay at a fixed date. But according to Shola, immediately her husband collected the loan, he abandoned her and their children and fled with the money. Narrating what happened, Chioma said Mr. Afolayan came to her house at 12, Oludegun Street, Ire Akari Estate, Isolo in Lagos and solicited for financial assistance. Ohaegbu said before she gave him the money, Afolayan took her to his house at Isheri-Oshun in Lagos and introduced her to his wife and children, assuring her that he would not disappoint her if given the loan. Oritsefemi whom a lot of people are now forced to reckon with after dishing out hits upon hits has said his story has changed and things are now better for him. Speaking with a Punch reporter, Oritsefemi said he charges N3m per show and he could do 20 states in a row, making him earn about N60m per brand-concert. Here is how he explained it in his own words; “Things have definitely changed. Nowadays, I don’t charge less than N3m to perform at a concert. Sometimes the concerts are funded by multinational companies and we have to tour 20 states. Multiply N3m by 20 states and you will understand what I am saying. The situation has indeed improved”.

The mother-in-law of Bayelsa State speaker, Madam Ogboro Dark was yesterday kidnapped by unknown gunmen who stormed her community in the state around 2.00am.The gunmen shot sporadically as they made their way into her home and abducted her. According to few villagers who witnessed the scene, the armed men entered the community through the waterside in three boats and were fast to leave as soon as they bundled the woman. The State commissioner has confirmed the incident and says police will do everything to bring back the aged woman.

A pastor with Deeper life Bible Church and a former Brooklyn-based civil attorney Ifeanyichukwu Eric Abakporo, was on May 28th sentenced to 6 years imprisonment by a US Federal High Court for defrauding banks, mortgage lenders, property owners, and property buyers in America. Prosecutors say Mr Abakporo and his accomplice, Latanya Pierce, carried out the illegal transactions for over nine years. They were convicted in a wide-ranging series of illegal transactions in New York city over a 9-year stretch, dating back to 2003. His accomplice, Latanya Pierce was sentenced to 30 months imprisonment. Pastor Abakporo was immediately handcuffed out of the courtroom with his wife and his 2 children present in the court room wailing as he was taken away.

A gold medalist at the boxing event at the just-concluded Ibile Games, Mujib Philips, died on Saturday in the swimming pool at the Mobolaji Johnson Sports Centre, Rowe Park in Yaba, Lagos. The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Philips died during the Boxing Hall of Fame championship event which holds every last Saturday of the month. Philips won a gold medal at the Ibile Games, hosted by the Lagos State Government to showcase talented athletes in local governments areas in the state. The boxer was confirmed dead by the medical doctor in charge of the Lagos State Sports Council, Dr Akin George, who also invited the state’s emergency ambulance service, LASAMBUS. “The body of the deceased would be taken to the appropriate place for a post-mortem examination to determine the cause of his death,’’ George said.
