Beloved $5 million manor owned by prominent Kansas City family destroyed by fire

A $5 million Kansas City manor has been destroyed after what officials believe was an accidental fire that started in the property's vast attic. Sitting on bluffs just north of the Missouri River, the 15,000-square foot Briarcliff home - owned by local property developer Charles Garney and his wife Patty, is famous to downtown residents - visible from Highway 169 and famous for hosting fundraisers and political events. It took 80 firefighters to control the three-alarm blaze after it broke out some before 11pm on Thursday, according to KCTV. The couple had been at a tournament event that night and returned home separately. Charles Garney was already home and asleep when Patty Garney arrived with their house guest. She told firefighters she had only been home about 15 minutes and was about to go to bed when she went to check on their dog. She then noticed a glow coming from the skylights of a two-story ball room at the center of the house. I determined it was fire because it was mov

Royal Caribbean has 'deep reservations' over David Beckham's football stadium

David Beckham’s plans to build a football stadium in Miami have been opposed by cruise company Royal Caribbean. The football star wants to build a stadium for his new Major League Soccer (MLS) franchise in the U.S. city and his preferred site is near PortMiami, one of the world’s busiest harbours. But the proposed 12-acre site is close to Royal Caribbean's headquarters. In a blog on its website, Royal Caribbean said it had ‘deep reservations’ to the plans and revealed that it had tabled an objection. The company said it was concerned about traffic but it also has its own plans to develop the site that Beckham and his investors have pinpointed. The cruise company’s headquarters overlaps with the blueprint for the proposed stadium on the waterfront. Royal Caribbean said its existing car park, daycare centre and employee gym would have to move to make way for a stadium that could contain between 25,000 and 40,000 seats. But the blog said the port’s southwest corner was too shallow to

A Russian mother convinced she had been given the wrong baby at a hospital is suing health officials after she finally managed to organise a DNA test - and discovered her suspicion was correct. Flera Fazlyeva, 54, from the city of Kazan in the Republic of Tatarstan, Russia, gave birth at hospital where her son was accidentally swapped with another baby boy born around the same time in 1986. After discovering the truth, Ms Fazlyeva contacted Razia Fakarova who had been given her son by mistake. But tragically, Ms Fazlyeva found that her real son, who had been named Aidar, had died in 2004 in a car accident when he was 18. She said: 'I was at the hospital on July 3, 1986. I knew as soon as they put the baby in my arms that something was not right. 'I told them then that they had given me the wrong baby and refused to take it, but then a nurse and a doctor came to me and explained to me that it was impossible, as the baby had been given a special tag right after birth. 'They p

Oscar's bid for gun arsenal is revealed as court is shown bloody scene where he shot Reeva - to horror of her mother

The noise turned out to be a washing machine, the High Court in Pretoria heard. Mr Rens, manager of the International Firearm Training Academy, said he had many conversations about firearms with Pistorius, who he claimed had 'a great love and enthusiasm' for guns. Mr Rens said he met Pistorius in 2012, trained in a gun range with him and that the runner was seeking to collect guns. In one conversation, Pistorius described how he was startled by a noise at home and decided to clear the house by drawing his gu

The convict in his plea for leniency said: I had an urge and could not control myself. Please I am begging for forgiveness, I am an orphan.” Earlier the Prosecutor, Cpl.
