Cameroonian troops fought “heavy clashes” Tuesday with Boko Haram militants near the border with Nigeria as a security summit kicked off in Niger on a regional plan to stop the Islamist fighters. Boko Haram insurgents from neighbouring Nigeria attacked the far northern Cameroon border village of Bonderi, a source told AFP, adding that “it’s too early to give a casualty toll”. A Kenyan school bus driver has died after drinking a 'truth potion' brewed by a witch doctor to prove he had not stolen books. School directors in a village in Kisii County hired the witch doctor to seek out the thief of school books, with the driver volunteering to drink the potion to prove he was innocent. 'The driver was dared... to prove his innocence by drinking the mixture,' local police chief Simon Kiragu told the Daily Nation newspaper. Huawei, a Chinese Telecommunications company, has cancelled its street lamp pole outdoor contract, with Lagos based outdoor advertising agency Touchpoint Limited over illegal deployment of Goodluck Jonathan campaign materials on poles paid for by the company. Huawei had secured the old tollgate location by Motorways, Ojota, Lagos, for a period of one year and had paid the mandatory Lagos State Signage & Advertisement Agency (LASAA) fee for their campaign. Sources at Huawei said the deployment of Goodluck Jonathan campaign materials alongside theirs was unacceptable and therefore had no alternative but to cancel the contract. Soldiers from 144 Battalion, Asa, in Ukwa West Local Government Area of Abia State have rescued 14 pregnant teenagers and eight children from a motherless babies’ home at Umunkpeyi Nvosi in Isiala Ngwa South Local Government Area. Also arrested by the soldiers were six young men, who claimed to be staff of the home, and two girls, aged 16 and 25. However, the proprietress of the home, Mrs. Nma Charity, is still at large. It was gathered that Mrs. Charity claimed to be running a government-approved home, but engages in child trafficking and hiring of men who impregnates the teenage girls.
