UNILORIN Law Faculty Rated Best In Nigeria

The Faculty of law, University of Ilorin has been rated the best in the country by the Council of Legal Education based on the cumulative performance of its students in the 2014 Bar Final Examinations of the Nigerian Law School. The followed the report submitted by the ad-hoc committee set up to assess the performance of students at the August 2014 Bar Final Examination. According to the report, the top five universities in terms of law in the country are; 1) University of Ilorin 2) University of Lagos 3) University of Ibadan 4) University of Nigeria, Nsukka and 5) University of Uyo and Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko. It was noted that the University of Ilorin and the University of Lagos have remained in the top five for the past 3 years. Solomon Aranse, the new Acting Inspector General of Police, was until his appointment, the Head of the Force Criminal Intelligence and Investigation Department, The apex intelligence gathering arm of the Nigerian police, the Force CID is the only arm of the police that provides Intelligence on Crime and National Security. He enlisted into the Nigerian Police in 1981 after graduating from the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, in 1980 with a degree in Political Science. A lawyer, Mr. Aranse also has a Bachelor of Law degree and Masters of Law from the University of Benin and University of Lagos respectively. He attended the Nigerian Law school and was called to the bar in 2000. He also has a Master’s Degree in Strategic Studies from the University of Ibadan. The Inspector General of Police, Suleiman Abba, has been sacked by president Jonathan. Presidential spokesperson, Reuben Abati just made the announcement. Abba took over from M.D Abubakar as IG of Police in August 2014. Pres. Jonathan has appointed DIG Solomon Arase as Acting IGP with immediate police.

Xenophobia: 6,000 Nigerians Will Lose Their Jobs If MTN Leaves Nigeria

MTN Nigeria says about 6,000 Nigerians will lose their jobs if MTN is made to leave Nigeria. Head of Communications MTN, Mr Wale Goodluck said this while reacting to calls by a protest group in Edo state yesterday that the telecommunications offices in Nigeria will be shut and their installations attacked if the xenophobic attacks in South Africa continues. Mr Goodluck said there are only 12 expatriates working for the company in Nigeria compared to a workforce of 6,000 Nigerians. “So if people go ahead with their threats to attack our facilities, what that means is that we may be forced to close down the business in Nigeria and about 6,000 Nigerians that make up 99% of our workforce will be unemployed. Then, when you look at our support chain, we have about 500,000 Nigerians gainfully employed. Nigerians Affected By Xenophobic Attacks Will Be Compensated – Obanikoro

Nigeria’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs II, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, is hopeful that citizens affected by the xenophobic attacks in South Africa will be compensated. Since the renewed attacks started last week, several Nigerians have lost their businesses and other belongings to fire set by locals on buildings where their businesses were housed. Senator Obanikoro in an interview with Channels TV, said that Nigerian High Commissioner, Martin Cobham and other delegations were taking stock of damages done to Nigerians to ensure that adequate compensation would be given to them. “We have situations where some of our people lost their shops in this attack. “We are taking stock of the damages done to them and we are going to be engaging the South African Government,” senator Obanikoro said. He stated that the South African government had been exploring different avenues to end the attacks that have claimed several lives in KwaZulu-Natal province. “O
