Nigerian soldiers battled Boko Haram members early this morning in Maiduguri after members of the dreaded sect attempted to seize Giwa Barracks located in the city. This time, the soldiers came out on top as they succeeded in killing many members of the Islamic sect. Director of Defence Information, Major General Chris Olukolade released a press statement earlier today explaining what was going on… “Pockets of terrorists apparently in a move to boost their depleted stock of fighters this morning attacked a military location in Maiduguri with a view to freeing their colleagues who are being held in detention. The attack has been successfully repelled with heavy human casualty on the terrorists. Some of the victims of the terrorists’ fired in their efforts to break into the detention facility, included those they came to rescue. Many of the terrorists and their weapons have been captured. Four soldiers were wounded and are being treated. Hot pursuits by land and air operations are ongoin

A 35-year old man, Arinze Kingsley, has left a married woman, Mrs Amaka Ohanwe, partially blind when she allegedly refused his sexual advances. Amaka was seriously injured in her right eye when she was allegedly beaten up by Kingsley at a beauty salon. She said after undergoing several operations, the doctors at Apapa General Hospital confirmed that she cannot see with the eye again. Following the assault, the police at Area ‘B’ Apapa arrested Kingsley and charged him with assault before Apapa Magistrate’s Court after which he was remanded in Kirikiri Prisons in Lagos State, southwest Nigeria. Both Amaka and Kingsley, who is still single, admitted that they were friends but Amaka said they were just friends not lovers. A woman has given HIV to her lesbian lover in an extremely rare case of female-to-female HIV transmission, according to The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The 46-year-old Texan woman 'likely acquired' the virus from her HIV-positive female partner. Such reports are incredibly rare, but the women were noted to have engaged in several risky behaviors and the diagnosed woman had stopped taking her medication in 2010. The 46-year-old unnamed woman tested positive and indicated she had had sex with only her female partner in the six months prior to her diagnosis. She also said she had not engaged in sex with a man for 10 years. The woman reported no HIV risk factors - besides sex with her 43-year-old partner - such as getting tattooed, having multiple unprotected sexual partners or IV drug use.

Angry youths in Festac Town, Lagos have burnt the canoe that capsized on March 11, killing 14 out of 20 passengers onboard. The News Agency of Nigeria reports the canoe was torched by the irate youths after it was recovered from the canal. The canoe capsized while ferrying its passengers to link 4th Avenue from 6th Avenue through 42 Road. One of the youths, speaking on condition of anonymity, told NAN at the scene of the mishap: “we had to burn the canoe because it would continue to remind us of the traumatic incident. “Although this is the first of such tragedy, we are not happy that it ever happened. “We don’t want to see it here and we doubt if any of the victims’ families would either.
