The political camp of the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, has created a website for the pupose of telling the ‘facts and history’ of the former military head of state to the world. The website, buhari.ng , was created by ITb expert, Babajide Akeredolu. The website is created with the intention of publishing ‘favourable news and articles’ on the major challenger of President Goodluck Jonathan in the February 14 presidential election. A check on the website reveals that it is populated with articles that extol the virtues of Buhari, especially during his days as the head of state and commissioner for Petroleum Resources. Defense ministry spokesman General Chris Olukolade said on Sunday evening that troops successfully repelled attacks on Maiduguri and Konduga, 40km to the southeast. He also revealed today that substantial amounts of heavy weapons have been captured, as more terrorists died in the fight which lasted till early Monday morning.

The Independent National Electoral Commission has rejected the governorship nominations of seven political parties. The rejection which affected several states of the federation, according to INEC, was as a result of the parties’ inability to nominate running mates. The parties and the states affected are – Peoples Party of Nigeria ( PPN ) in Delta state, Labour Party in Niger State, New Nigeria Peoples Party in Ogun State, Unity Party of Nigeria in Oyo State, United Democratic Party in Rivers State, and Peoples Democratic Movement in Sokoto and Zamfara States respectively. In a decision extract issued and signed by the Director (Commission’s Secretariat), Ishiaku A.Gali, the commission also approved that the House of Representatives election in Ado/ Opoku/Ogbadibo Federal Constituency of Benue State, being uncontested, the nominated candidate should be declared elected on the day of the election by the Returning Officer. Research has it that the former President of Nigeria, Olusegun Obasanjo aka OBJ, has finally defected to the GMB-Driven party – APC. This is a shocker but speaking with the former President OBJ himself at his farm in Ota, he has given a few reasons why his defecting should not just be accepted by Nigerians but should also be applauded. The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a gang of armed robbers, including a couple, who allegedly went to rob in an estate at Abule Lemode in the Ijoko area of the state. Our correspondent gathered that the four suspects ─ Amache and Seun Augustine, Taiwo Dada and Ezekiel Alawode ─ were apprehended while allegedly robbing at Santos Crescent, Araromi Estate. They were reportedly arrested at about 9.30pm on Saturday, January 17. Punch Metro learnt that the suspects, who were in possession of a locally-made pistol, were first apprehended by the members of the local vigilance group before they were handed over to the Agbado Police Division, Ayinla, on Sunday. Our correspondent gathered that it was the couple ─ Amache and Seun ─ who had stayed in the estate for about a year, that allegedly led the gang on the night of the incident.
