According to family sources, Chris Eza had gone out to get food at an eatery along Ahmadu Bello way around 9pm when he saw some police officers on patrol. On observation, he found out that one of them, the suspect, was not properly dressed and immediately cautioned him. The junior officer, a Corporal, got angry and began to grumble for being told to dress properly. An angry Chris felt his action was unacceptable and warned the officer that he was going to disarm him if he didn’t take care. Instead of apologizing, the junior officer cocked his gun and threatened to shoot his boss. He told Eza that if he came close to him, he would shoot. Calling his bluff, Eza moved towards the officer, who immediately opened fire. Other officers around rushed Chris to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Un

US-Bangladesh blogger Avijit Roy hacked to death, wife injured

Attackers in the Bangladeshi capital Dhaka have hacked to death a US-Bangladeshi blogger whose writings on religion angered Islamist hardliners. Avijit Roy, an atheist who advocated secularism, was attacked as he walked back from a book fair with his wife, who was also hurt in the attack. No-one has been arrested but police say they are investigating a local Islamist group that praised the killing. Hundreds of people gathered in Dhaka to mourn the blogger's death. Mr Roy's family say he received threats after publishing articles promoting secular views, science and social issues on his Bengali-language blog, Mukto-mona (Free Mind). He defended atheism in a recent Facebook post, calling it a "rational concept to oppose any unscientific and irrational belief". The website was inaccessible on Friday. Source: BBC

???!: South Korean court legalises adultery

Image
South Korea’s Constitutional Court has struck down a 60-year-old statute outlawing adultery under which violators faced up to two years in prison. The nine-member bench ruled by seven to two that the 1953 law was unconstitutional in a judgement handed down on Thursday. “Even if adultery should be condemned as immoral, state power should not intervene innindividuals’ private lives,” said presiding justice Park Han-Chul. It was the fifth time the apex court had considered the constitutional legality of the legislation which had made South Korea one of the few non-Muslim countries to regard marital infidelity as a criminal act. In the past six years, close to 5,500 people have been formerly arraigned on adultery charges – including nearly 900 in 2014. But the numbers had been falling, with cases that end in prison terms increasingly rare. Where as 216 people were jailed under the law in 2004, that figure had dropped to 42 by 2008, and since then only 22 have found themselves behind

The First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan, Thursday, urged women in the country to vote for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), saying no one loves Nigerian women than President Goodluck Jonathan. When you catch them today, they will tell another lie tomorrow. We (PDP) do not tell you about change because we are not bus conductors that ask for change,” said Mrs Jonathan at Orerokpe, Okpe Local Government Area of Delta State, where the PDP Women for Change Initiative Presidential Rally held. “We are now in a digital age and we should reject anyone who wants to take us back to analog days. They keep saying they will do this and that. They should tell us what they have done for Nigerians while in office. As for President Jonathan, he has vowed to do more
