Fayose meets with Hausa leaders, urges them to vote for GEJ

Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Ayo Fayose, on Tuesday met with leaders of the Hausa community in Ekiti State urging them to vote for President Goodluck Jonathan in the February 14 presidential election. A statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Idowu Adelusi, in Ado-Ekiti, quoted Fayose as saying, “We want peace and stability in this country. The problem of insurgency is a creation of the All Progressives Congress so as to destabilise Jonathan and discredit his administration. “How would Buhari, who on many occasions turned down offer to lead the committee on dialogue with Boko Haram, now say he has the solution to Boko Haram activities in the country? “Is that not a clear indication of APC being in the know of Boko Haram and other gunmen attacks in the North? A man has reportedly been blindfolded and thrown off a tower block in Syria for ‘being gay’ before being stoned to death after surviving the fall. The Shocking pictures of the execution, which were posted on Live Leak show ISIS militants hurling the man off the seven- storey building in the town of Tal Abyad in Raqqa. The man, who was supposedly being punished for having a ‘homosexual affair’, apparently survived the fall, but was stoned to death by a waiting crowd at the foot of the tower block. The London-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, claims the man was thrown from the building before being beaten to death. Muhammad Buhari (retd), on Monday said if elected on February 14, he would ban the importation of basic items like rice and tomato in order to enhance local production of the products. He also said his administration would focus on agriculture, mining, infrastructure and job provision at the top of its economic agenda. PVCs: Ogun to declare holiday

Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, has said if there is a need to declare a public holiday for the residents to collect their Permanent Voter Card, he will not hesitate to do so. The governor said this on Monday at Ajebo in Obafemi/Owode Local Government Area of the state during his re- election campaign tour. From the sources in the state Independent National Electoral Commission, less than 50 per cent of the registered residents have collected their PVC. He said when eventually the long-awaited PVCs were brought in from Abuja to the state, and if it appeared many residents wouldn’t get them before the February 8 deadline given by INEC, he might declare a public holiday. Bizarre: Man walks into police station, tells cops he wants to go to jail and starts masturbating

A man who was hell-bent on getting arrested, walked into a police station, dropped his pants and started masturbating in front of stunned cops. According to Dailymail,Ruhan Karjohn, 31, from Hartford Connecticut initially went into the police station at 1pm on Sunday and asked cops if there were any warrants out for his arrest. He was told there were none and he left. But a short time later he returned to the lobby of the police department and announced that he wanted to go to jail. In a bizarre series of events, police said Karjohn then dropped his pants and began to masturbate. According to a police report: 'Citizens in the lobby observed this and ran from the area in shock.' Karjohn then got his wish and was arrested and sent to jail. He has been charged with public indecency and a breach of peace.

PVCs: Court asked to postpone general elections

Four plaintiffs have asked the Federal High Court in Abuja to order the postponement of the general elections scheduled for February 14 and 28 till when all eligible voters have their Permanent Voter Card. The plaintiffs who claimed that the Independent National Electoral Commission had yet to issue them their PVC, are Asogo Torkuma Venatius, Ola Solomon Oluwasanmi, Sunday Attah and Philip Agbese. Insisting that INEC was under statutory obligation to provide them with the PVC, they are also asking the court to order the use of Temporary Voters Card for those who are unable to collect their PVC. They argued that should the election be allowed to go on, “millions of eligible voters stand the risk of being disenfranchised.” Their counsel, Mr. Amobi Nzelu, who filed their suit with number FHC/ABJ/CS/DW/2015, joined the Independent National Electoral Commission and the Attorney-General of the Federation, Mr. Bello Adoke, as the first and second defendants respectively. ...

Reading have completed the signing of former Everton striker Yakubu, the club have confirmed. The 32-year-old will wear the number 20 shirt at the Madejski Stadium and manager Steve Clarke has hailed the signing. “An experienced goalscorer, Yakubu brings a fantastic scoring record to this club and his addition will complement the strikers we’ve already got at Reading and help us to improve as a team in latter stages of the season,” he told the club’s official website. “I know all about him as a player and I have heard very good reports about him as a personality in the dressing room. In its efforts to ensure free and fair elections and one that is violence free even after the exercise, the federal government will today decide whether schools, both private and public should be in session or go on break. This has come as a result of several outcries from students, parents and other stakeholders in the sector who have been calling on the federal government to see the need to shut down schools, at least for two weeks as recent developments within the country have clearly shown that schools are targets for the aggrieved.
