The war against child trafficking recorded huge success yesterday following the raid of a baby factory by the Abia state command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps.No fewer than 19 pregnant young women were rescued from the home located at Umunkpeyi in Isiala Ngwa South local government area of the state.Security operatives have continued to clamp down on baby factories in the state especially Aba where a popular hospital was recently demolished by government for alleged involvement in the illegal deal.Parading the rescued girls and some of the workers in the baby factory, Abia state commandant of NSCDC, Mr. Andy Dateer, said the arrest was made possible following a tip-off.Apart from the 19 pregnant inmates, NSCDC said three babies aged two were also rescued along with four social workers and four young men who were arrested at the premises.According to him, the operators of the home keep young women with unwanted pregnancy in the premises and sell off their babies a...

Sanusi withdraws suite against GEJ

At least 19 gunmen have been killed in a security raid by the Egyptian army in Sheikh Zuweid city of Egypt’s North Sinai governorate, a security source told Xinhualate on Sunday evening.“Four gunmen riding a vehicle in the south of Sheikh Zuweid exchanged fire with the security forces that managed to kill them, besides 15 other militants who were killed separately in different parts of the city,” the source explained.The raid was part of a massive security campaign waged by the Egyptian military in cooperation with the police against militant groups. Chibok girls: Court declares disruption of protest illegal

A Federal Capital Territory High Court in Gudu, Abuja, on Wednesday declared as illegal the disruption of a protest led by a former member of the House of Representatives, Dino Melaye, in Abuja on May 9, 2014. The protesters were demanding government’s action for the rescuing of the over 200 girls abducted from Government Secondary School, Chibok, Borno State, by the violent Islamic sect, Boko Haram, on April 14. Justice Abubakar Talba in his judgment ruled that the Police Order Act, Cap 382, Laws of Nigeria, 1990, “does authorise men of the Nigeria Police Force to disrupt rallies or possession on the issue of the abducted Chibok girls.” The judge also declared as illegal the act of the police disrupting the protest on the grounds that a prior police permit was not obtained.
