Gunmen Destroy APC Governorship Campaign Venue In Rivers State
The National School Field, venue of an All Progressives Congress, APC, rally set to hold in Okrika Local
Government area of Rivers State has
been attacked by unknown armed
men.
DAILY POST gathered that the gunmen used explosives to destroy the stage, canopies, chairs and other
arrangements made for the rally.
The APC governorship candidate,
Dakuku Peterside was billed to be in
Okrika as part of his campaign trail in the state.
In a distress call put to media houses in Port Harcourt, Director of Media and Publicity of Dakuku’s Greater Together Campaign Organization, Ibim Semenitari said the armed men struck as early as 3am this morning, leaving the venue in wreckage.
Semenitari said the armed men shot
sporadically to scare everyone
working at the APC venue away before blowing the explosives.
“It was burnt and not gutted by fire. At about 3:45am, armed men whom we don’t know came and started shooting.
The boys working at the venue had to run for their lives. At about 4am, they started throwing dynamites.
“As I speak, they have destroyed the
stage, the sound system; they destroyed the canopies. They have destroyed everything.
“This is worrisome for us. The APC has continued to conduct itself in the most peaceful manner. The APC is resolved not to fight, the APC is resolved not to use violence because we believe that
an election is supposed to be peaceful and credible”.
She expressed uncertainty on the
continuation of the campaign in
Okrika.
