School Driver Dies After Taken 'Truth Portion' In Kenya

A Kenyan school bus driver has died after drinking a 'truth potion' brewed by a witch doctor to prove he had not stolen books.

School directors in a village in Kisii County hired the witch doctor to seek out the thief of school books, with the driver volunteering to drink the potion to prove he was innocent.

'The driver was dared... to prove his innocence by drinking the mixture,' local police chief Simon Kiragu told the Daily Nation newspaper.

'The 33-year old collapsed and died immediately after the drink.'

Furious villagers then took revenge on school leaders by torching the school bus and the deputy director's house.

Reports of death relating to witchcraft in Kenya are reasonably common and the bus driver's death comes 10 days after villagers were
reported to have spent a day waiting for a witch doctor to bring a corpse back to life.

Furious Kenyan villagers said they wasted a day waiting for him to resurrect the body after he claimed to have failed because he was too
'tired'.

Scores of villagers in Kenya's southeastern Kwale district turned up singing and dancing to see the 'miracle', Kenya's The Star newspaper reported.

'We have never experienced this and want to see it first hand,' village elder Ndaro Kikuyu said before the witchdoctor Samuel Kanundu began
his work.

Kanundu had boasted he had already brought five people back to life, and told the scores of villagers on Thursday that he would resurrect the man who died in October 2013 'by sunset'.

But villagers grew angry when nothing happened and Kanundu asked the crowd to wait as he was
'tired.'

However, the dead man's family said they believed the resurrection had been complicated by the fact the man had been 'killed by a witch
who hid his body' beneath a banana tree, it was reported.
