8 Nigerians In South Africa Want To Come Back Home – Ambassador

Due to the xenophobic attacks, 8 Nigerians living in South Africa, have reportedly signified their intention to head back home. Nigeria’s Consul General in South Africa, Amb. Uche Ajulu-Okeke, disclosed on Wednesday, that the Nigerian mission was already working with them to facilitate their journey back home. “I am working with eight Nigerians who have indicated interest to go home. They are presently at the deportation holding facility at Limbola, South Africa.” “The meeting was successful. Victims of the attacks came with wounds, including machete and gunshot wounds. They narrated how they were attacked and brought pictures. We took note of all that. ‘The mission asked all the provincial chairmen of the union to collate all information reported.”

The Federal government on Wednesday clarified that President Goodluck Jonathan will hand over power to General Muhammad Buhari, Nigeria President elect on 29 May and not 28 May as previously reported. Senator Patricia Akwashiki, the Minister of Information told journalists after today’s meeting of Federal Executive Council that President Jonathan will remain Nigeria’s President till 29 May. Akwashiki said she was misquoted in the statement attributed to her last week that President Jonathan will hand over power on 28 May. There has been controversies since the publication of the story that the President will hand over power a day earlier than usual. UNILORIN Law Faculty Rated Best In Nigeria

The Faculty of law, University of Ilorin has been rated the best in the country by the Council of Legal Education based on the cumulative performance of its students in the 2014 Bar Final Examinations of the Nigerian Law School. The followed the report submitted by the ad-hoc committee set up to assess the performance of students at the August 2014 Bar Final Examination. According to the report, the top five universities in terms of law in the country are; 1) University of Ilorin 2) University of Lagos 3) University of Ibadan 4) University of Nigeria, Nsukka and 5) University of Uyo and Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko. Solomon Aranse, the new Acting Inspector General of Police, was until his appointment, the Head of the Force Criminal Intelligence and Investigation Department, The apex intelligence gathering arm of the Nigerian police, the Force CID is the only arm of the police that provides Intelligence on Crime and National Security. MTN Nigeria says about 6,000 Nigerians will lose their jobs if MTN is made to leave Nigeria. Head of Communications MTN, Mr Wale Goodluck said this while reacting to calls by a protest group in Edo state yesterday that the telecommunications offices in Nigeria will be shut and their installations attacked if the xenophobic attacks in South Africa continues. Mr Goodluck said there are only 12 expatriates working for the company in Nigeria compared to a workforce of 6,000 Nigerians. “So if people go ahead with their threats to attack our facilities, what that means is that we may be forced to close down the business in Nigeria and about 6,000 Nigerians that make up 99% of our workforce will be unemployed. Nigerians Affected By Xenophobic Attacks Will Be Compensated – Obanikoro

Nigeria’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs II, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, is hopeful that citizens affected by the xenophobic attacks in South Africa will be compensated. Since the renewed attacks started last week, several Nigerians have lost their businesses and other belongings to fire set by locals on buildings where their businesses were housed. Senator Obanikoro in an interview with Channels TV, said that Nigerian High Commissioner, Martin Cobham and other delegations were taking stock of damages done to Nigerians to ensure that adequate compensation would be given to them. “We have situations where some of our people lost their shops in this attack. “We are taking stock of the damages done to them and we are going to be engaging the South African Government,” senator Obanikoro said.
