Washington DC Legalizes Marijuana Possession and Use

Image
Washington DC in the United States has legalized the possession of small amounts of marijuana. The implication is that people who use the drug in private no longer face prosecution. This new law has created tension between the city's mayor and Congress. Washington DC joins Alaska, Colorado, and Washington state as the only places in the US that allow the use of the drug for recreational purposes. Residents and visitors to the city over the age of 21 can possess as much as 2oz (56g) of cannabis, and may grow a few plants at home. However, Buying and selling the drug remains illegal, as does smoking it in public. This  plan was reached upon through  a referendum last November. But the vote revived tensions between local officials and Congress. Washington DC - a federal district, not a state - is required to seek congressional approval for much of its legislation. In a letter sent on Tuesday, two members of Congress warned the city’s  Mayor, Muriel Bowser that sh...

UCL: Berbatov Leads Monaco to a Stunning win against Arsenal

Image
On a bizarre night in London, Arsenal find themselves on the cusp of yet another round of 16 Champions League elimination after losing 3-1 to a determined AS Monaco in the first leg at the Emirates. Arsenal dominated possession but lacked penetration, and their confusion turned into chaos when France youngster Geoffrey Kondogbia put the team from the Principality in front with a deflected strike from 25 yards in the first- half. Arsenal turned the screw insearch of an equalizer but striker Olivier Giroud was uncharacteristically wasteful considering his impressive run of form since the turn of the year, missing a number of sitters as Monaco continued to contain the Gunners. Dimitar Berbatov, on his return to North London, doubled the visitors’ advantage after the interval when rounded off a brilliant counter attack as Arsenal threw men forward. Second-half substitute Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain gave the Gunners a lifeline with a stunner on 90 minutes, but their desperation turne...

The first phase of the policy, involving the payment of the 35 per cent duty came into effect in February 2014. He did not give any reason for the postponement. When the imple...
