Usain Bolt, a six-time Olympic gold medallist revealed he would retire from athletics after the 2017 International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF)World Championships in London. According to the Daily Mail, an online news portal, the Jamaican 28-year-old decided on Feb. 14 to retire in 2017 after the World Championships, in spite of his former promise to retire after the Rio 2016 Olympics. About 20 women from Bayelsa State were yesterday burnt to death in a multiple accident after visiting the first lady Dame Patience Jonathan. It was gathered last night that the accident occurred at Ahoada, in Rivers State. It was said to have involved a Toyota Sienna car, jeep and a bus with an inscription, Peoples Democratic Party Women Initiative. A security source put the number of burnt victims at 20 adding that all the occupants of the bus perished. The source who spoke in confidence said:“The affected women were travelling in the bus which went up in flames. They were burnt to ashes. Only one of the women was rescued.”It was learnt that the women paid a solidarity visit to the first lady in Okirika where they spent two days. Former President Olusegun Obasanjo yesterday came hard again on President Jonathan and his style of governance, claiming that President Jonathan is afraid that if Gen Buhari wins the election, he might jail him when he leaves office. Obasanjo said this while speaking to newsmen at his home in Abeokuta shortly after his return from his trip to Kenya and UK. The Nigerian Immigration Service, Oyo State Command, on Saturday paraded a pastor, Olufemi Timothy, and four others accused of child trafficking in Ibadan. The command also paraded 12 boys and four girls allegedly being used by the accused persons in a slavery ring. The Controller of the command, Innocent Akatu, said the accused persons were apprehended in various locations in Ibadan, adding that they would be handed over to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Traffic in Persons for legal actions. Our correspondent, who was at the command when the culprits and their victims were handed over to NAPTIP officials from Lagos, observed that the children were not well fed and clothed. Singer Paul Play Dairo has filed a N200m lawsuit against telecommunications company, Etisalat for using his song, Mosorire in its popular reality series, Nigerian Idol, without seeking his consent. In the suit filed at a Lagos High court and marked FHC/CS/581/2014, Optima Media Group was made co-defendant. Paul stated that the defendants had used his hit song, Mosorire, which he composed himself, to promote their TV show, Nigerian Idol in 2012 and 2013. He alleged that during the course of the programme, a contestant was made to reproduce his song and sing it without his express permission as the owner of the song. The court paper in part reads “I am the copyright owner of the work named and tagged “ Mosorire ”, contained in my repertoire, exclusively for the jurisdiction of Nigeria and the authority or permission to exploit such work can only be obtained from me.
