HOW TO KNOW THE TYPE OF EGBE YOU BELONG

Egbe (heavenly mates)

Knowing the type Egbe you belong to is an issue that begs for answer time in time out. I have in several times been messaged either by email or via WhatsApp by people begging to know the exact Egbe in which they belong.

I must say that this question had made 90 percent of my Google search queries in the last 12 months whenever I receive via email my monthly site report by Google. In all honestly, I see nothing wrong in knowing your exact Egbe especially when you curious about things you are told probably by a spiritualist or your strange experiences as far as life is concerned.

This short article is to respond to the question that solicits for dire answer! Hence, how to know the type of Egbe you belong.

To start with, you have to bear at the back of the mind that we have numerous classes ofEgbe in which are innumerable by listing. Even the Veterans and practitioners of Egbe are likely not to have a grasp of how many are in existence as far as spirituality is concerned.  This is why they are known as “Egbe, a po bi eepe ile”: Egbe, one who are numerous just as sand on earth.

There are four recommended ways you can find out the class of Egbe you belong to.  They are:

Egbe initiation

Behavioral Pattern/Personal traits

Unexplained life experiences

General Ifa consultation

Egbe Initiation/Egbe priest/priestess:

Just like Ifa initiation that tends to have extensive information about one’s life in order to have a better and fulfilling life, Egbe initiation also gives information about your life when done.  Its main purpose is to have and maintain cordial and seamless relationship with the Heavenly mates which obviously is a spiritual route to living a desired life.

Egbe initiation is one valid way to know that Egbe you belong to. This is so because, this sacred process is executed by veterans and expert in the field (Egbe priest/priestesses). The Egbe class is compulsory to be determined in order to ascertain the kind of Egbe symbol appropriate for you.   For example, a person whose Egbe class is Eleeko will be made an Eleeko Hand fan alongside other symbol(s) that depict its class. It’s just as going through an Ifa initiation where it gets to a certain stage of knowing the Odu Ifa of such client.

This is likely to be known at the Post-initiation (Ita) day (usually third day and final day of initiation process) where Ifa consultation is made. A person who Ogbe-Osa is revealed for during consultation is most likely to belong to Eleeko. This is because Ogbe-Osa gives credence and recognition to this class of Egbe. The Verse thus:

Einin níí fojú mutí

Àgbà ńlá òjò níí ojú ĺrun tàṣẹ-tase

Difa fún Elereko

Tíí e iya Ère

Ó ntorun b wáyé

Ẃn ní kó rúb

Kó fìdí gb́ bal̀

Ǹj́ Èré igbó o

Èré nà o

A ńpè é ĺnà ko wálé

 Translation:

It is the housefly that consumes alcohol with its eyes

The heavy downpour is always witnessed by the Supreme-Being

Ifa’s declaration for Eleeko

The mother of Ere

When coming from heaven to earth

She was told to consecrate Egbe

Therefore, the profitable things in the woods

The profitable things on the road

I call on you to come home

However, depending on difference in area and difference in initiation process, rather than Ifa consultation, some make use of Kolanuts (Four lobes especially) to ascertain the Egbe class from Egbe. Whichever way is valid.

Behavioral pattern/personal traits: Behavioral pattern and personal trait are key factors in determining the class of Egbe you belong to. It is all known that we are distinct from each other either through our behavior or some certain characteristics. These distinctions are hints to knowing the Egbe you belong to.

A child who tends to visit the dump site every time is likely to be Adetanyanya/Adeta egbe class. A child who experiences mood swing or multiple personalities may belong to Eleeko. While the one who appears to be restless/stubborn may fall under Jaguna (Read more). This however can be confirmed either by an Ifa priest or Egbe priest/Priestesses.

Unexplained Life Experiences: There are some unexplained experiences that may tell the type of Egbe which you belong. Salami says when someone experiences an unexplained disappearance of money and valuable items inside the house and in transit, such person may belong to Eleeko or must have wronged Elekoo or maybe needs such person’s attention.

However, when a person tends to have strange dreams like, playing in the midst of snakes or anything that has to do with serpent may be classified as an Eleeko due to the strong link between both parties.

On the other hand, a person who finds his or herself in a leadership position without striving hard for such, or given a title which he or she cannot explain why may be likened to be an Iyalode due to its leadership characteristics.

General Ifa consultation: This is another way that may depict the type of Egbe you belong to.  There are situations where Ifa will recommend Egbe initiation for a client or advise him or her to feed his/her heavenly mates and as well state the class of Egbe he/she belongs depending on the level of the Babalawo’s knowledge on the revealed Odu. This however, in a way leads you to finding the answer to your quest. A situation where Otura-Osa is revealed validates such person to belong to egbe Iyalode. Here it says:

Aye ti si, Aye n’rele

Eyin Ijogun orun ki e wa peyinda

Difa fun Iyabonbata

Tii se Iya Egbe ode Orun o

Ebo ni won ni ko waa se

O gb’ebo, o ru’bo

Ko pe, ko jinna

E ba ni ba jebutu ire gbogbo

Translation

The world moved and was returning home

All evil principalities of heaven, please go back

Ifa’s message for Iyabonbata (Iyalode)

Who was the head of the Egbe in heaven

She was advised to offer ebo

She complied

Before long, not too far

Join us in the midst of all ire

 Conversely, there are instances where an Odu will emphasis on two or more classes of Egbe. If this happens to be the case, the Babalawo or the Egbe priest/priestess will have pin-point the exact class the person belongs to. This is done by asking Ifa/Egbe the exact one. An example is evident in the sacred odu of Ogbe-Irosun where Ifa talks about both Eleeko and Iyalode. In the aspect of Eleeko thus;

Kinrinjin

Kinrinjin

Àlùkínrínjin

Adífáfún Eléékò

Níj́ tí ń tìk̀lé ̀run b̀ wáyé

Translation:

Ogbe-Irosun on Iyalode:

Òwú dúdú kò yá kùrán bíi funfun

Ìgbàlè kò yá kìrì w fún ologberi

Aṣọ tí a bá fún òkú  d’ègbé

Esúsú nii fii j

Difa fún Ìyálóde Ìpo

Ó feyinti ó ń fkún sùn ráhùn m

Ẃn ní kó rúb

Kó fìdí gb́ bal̀

Èrò Ìpo, èrò ̀fà

wá ba wa ní jebutu m

In addition, there is high tendency this person may share behavioral pattern and personal trait from both classes of Egbe. Be it the case, the Babalawo needs to find out the exact.

These are possible ways in knowing your type of Heavenly mates. Unfortunately, Egbe has been one of the disheartened ways to scam the venerable and novice by self-acclaimed ‘spiritualists’ who make up untrue information as regard Egbe. A client once recounted her experience with a so-called spiritualist who told her she belongs to “Egbe omo-agba”. I have never by chance heard this before either from an Egbe-priest/priestess or Babalawo (even though there are many classes of Heavenly mates). The term “Omo Agba” could be as far as am concerned link with the Elders of the night (witches) which are entirely different from Heavenly mates. You must always endeavor to be extremely careful and ask questions if things you are told are unclear to you.

As stated earlier, Egbe are numerous in numbers, the afore-explained are those popular and those that frequently present themselves. Other classes like Amori Apa, Deji, Alesinloye, Aniwura, Ajisafe, Dada, Iyamokun etc. shall be discussed when enough data is gathered on them.
