Thousands Cameroonians In Yaounde March To Show Support For Troops Fighting Boko Haram
Thousands of people in Cameroon on Saturday marched in Yaounde, the country’s capital, to protest against the Boko Haram insurgency and to show support for the Cameroonian army, which is fighting alongside Nigeria and regional neighbours to defeat the Islamist group.
One of the organisers of the march told newsmen that the march was carried out as a means of informing the public, especially those in the southern region, about the threat of the terrorists,Yahoo News reports.
“It was important to tell Cameroonians that we are at war and a part of the country is suffering…about 150,000 people have been displaced by the conflict,” said Gubai Gatama,a newspaper editor who was among the march’s organisers.
Gatama also stated that about 170 schools in the country’s Northern region have been closed due to the Boko Haram insurgency.
