A copy of the new Nigeria map by the National conference

The National conference in its final report had recommended the creation of 18 additional states to bring the number of states in the country to 54.

Some Northern delegates had initially kicked against the creation of more states apart from the one proposed for the South-East which was overwhelmingly supported.

However, after series of consultations by the leadership of delegations, the Conference unanimously adopted the recommendation for the creationof additional 18 new states.

On July 3rd, delegates at the just concluded National Conference had unanimously supported the creation of 18 more additional states.

The recommendation was made by the Committee on Political Restructuring and Forms of Government jointly headed by Ike Nwachukwu and Mohammed Kumalia.

The recommendation was faulted by veteran journalist and publisher of Ovationa Internation magazine, Dele Momodu.
