First Class Galore! 89 Unilag Students Bag 1st Class Degrees In 2012/2013 Session

No fewer than 89 students will be ushered into the Nigerian labour market by the University of Lagos (UNILAG) at is convocation institution next week. Thefirst classgraduates are part of the total of9,729 graduateswho will be awarded their certificates at the 2012/2013 convocation of the institution scheduled for Wednesday June 11 To Thursday June 12, 2014. Speaking withnewsmenin Lagos, the Vice-Chancellor of UNILAG,Prof. Rahamon Bello,said there would be an award of first and higher degrees, diploma, certificates as well as prize giving at the ceremony. Prof. Bello’s breakdown shows that 482 students would graduate from the Faculty of Arts, 535 from Business Administration, 246 from Environmental Sciences, 209 from the Faculty of Law, 141 from the Faculty of Pharmacy, 420 from the Faculty of Education, 344 from the Faculty of Engineering, 655 from the Faculty of Social Sciences and 493 from the Faculty of Sciences. The College of Medicine, which comprises the Faculties of Basic Medical Sciences, Clinical Sciences and Dental Sciences would also graduate 415 students while the Distance Learning Institute (DLI) would graduate 968 students The remaining 4,821 graduates are from the School of Postgraduate Studies. According to aNANreport which quoted the VC, several projects would also be inaugurated at the matriculations ceremony. “We shall be commissioning the Central Research Laboratory Building donated by Dr Daniel Olukoya, the General Overseer of the Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministry and an alumnus of the university. “The other is the Alumni Jubilee House built and donated by the University Alumni Association in alliance with GTBank Plc. “We shall also be commissioning the Biodun Shobanjo Mass Communication Multi Media Building donated by Chief Biodun Shobanjo, Chairman, Troyka Group,” he said. He also announced the commencement of the B.A. Chinese Studies programme which he said would to contribute to nation building and international relations. “This programme will equally enable Nigerians to bridge language and cultural gaps,” he said. This news comes only a few days after the Vice Chancellor of Western Delta University Oghara, Delta State, Prof Peter Hugbo, said some Nigerian first class graduates are only products of a manipulated academic system.
