Yenagoa On Lockdown As President Jonathan’s Daughter Weds Today

Large swathes of Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital, have been cordoned off and closed to traffic as President Jonathan’s adopted daughter, Elizabeth Sakwe, ties the nuptial knot today. It is a bad day to conduct business in Bayelsa as all roads leading to the President’s home in the Kpansia area of Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, have been barricaded since Thursday including all markets in and around the city will remain under lock and key as well. There has been vehicular gridlock in Yenagoa for most of the week as a result of the closed roads. Accessing the Kpansia suburb from the Isaac Boro expressway end will be impossible today as residents would have to go through the Melford Okilo route to access their homes. Motorists commuting from Edepie axis of Yenagoa were forced to make a detour around Opolo to access the Elebele road before hitting the Sani Abacha expressway. Also, the Azikoro-Agbura road leading to Otuoke was brimming with armed security operatives who kept a close watch on every visitor. Several policemen, soldiers and men of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), have relocated to Bayelsa to do their best in managing chaotic traffic and maintaining security. Most of the country’s politicians will be in Yenagoa as well. Yesterday, the Judicial Institute venue of the National Conference was near empty as delegates (who have spent most of their waking hours sleeping during plenary) relocated to Yenagoa for the wedding of the Jonathans.
