Man bites off son’s ear for defending wife

There was confusion on Saturday in the Ebute Meta area of Lagos State after a truck loader, Udeme Inim, 30, allegedly bit off his stepson’s ear.The incident happened around 11am on Asaka Street, off Abule-Nla Road, Ebute Meta West. It was gathered that there had been a disagreement between Inim and his wife, which had led to the suspect assaulting her. PUNCH Metro learnt that when the victim, Christopher Bassey, intervened, Inim left his wife and attacked him.In the ensuing scuffle, Inim, an indigeneof Akwa Ibom State, was said to have gone for the teenager’s right ear and bit it off. Our correspondent was told that the victim was rushed to a hospital shortly after he reported the matter to the IponriPolice Station, but his ear could not be saved.Our correspondent saw the ear in a transparent nylon after sighting the victim in the Ebute Meta area on Monday. A man committed bestiality with a chicken in  Kenya. Ndanu Mwatha, 22, said the act, that led to the death of the bird, was in retaliation to the killing of his chicken by his employer. Starreports Mwatha said his boss did not compensate him."I could not hold it anymore plus these people undermine me,"According to he Star Area assistant chief Agnes Musili said Mwatha committed the act when the chicken entered his house. "He is a shamba boy for one of the families around but he has rented a houseat Etawa in Karura sub location," Musili said.She said Mwatha is being held at Mwingi police station and will be charged in court on Tuesday.

Fire guts plaza in Lagos

A fire outbreak has occurred in a plaza on Ereko Street in Idumota, Lagos Island. The fire started this afternoon from the middle floor of the plaza and luckily, fire fighters quickly responded to the calls they got. Two other plazas have been affected by fire lately in Lagos Island, with traders loosing goods worth millions of Naira. It will be recalled that Lagos State Governor,Babtunde Raji Fashola promised to help some of those traders start again when he visited them shortly after the fire incident.

Samsung unveils Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge

Samsung has unveiled two new smartphones, the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge at its Galaxy Unpacked event at Mobile World Congress (MWC), which the company claims will "set a new standard for smartphones". The Samsung Galaxy S6 carries the world's first embedded wireless solution, certified with WPC and PMA Standards. Within 10 minutes of lying the phone on the separately sold charging pad, it will be sufficiently charged to watch two hours worth of HD Video Play, the company said. The S6 Edge is curved on both sides, meaning the display wraps around the entire width of the handset. The design is an extention of the Galaxy Note Edge, which is curved along the right hand side only. The Telegraph

Crowd beat teen to death, say she is a suicide bomber

A crowd beat to death a teenage girl accused of planning to be a suicide bomber and then set her body ablaze Sunday, according to police and witnesses at a northeastern Nigerian market. Accordng to AP,a second suspect, also a teenage girl, was arrested at Muda Lawal, the biggest market in Bauchi city. In Bauchi, the two girls aroused suspicion by refusing to be searched when they arrived at the gate to the vegetable market, said yam vendor Mohd Adamu. People overpowered one girl and discovered she had two bottles strapped to her body, he said. They clubbed her to death, put a tire doused in fuel over her head and set it on fire, he said. It seems doubtful the girl was actually a bomber as she did not detonate any explosives when she was attacked, said Police Deputy Superintendent Mohammad Haruna. He described her as the victim of"mob action carried out by an irate crowd."
