A Federal Capital Territory High Court in Gudu, Abuja, on Wednesday declared as illegal the disruption of a protest led by a former member of the House of Representatives, Dino Melaye, in Abuja on May 9, 2014. The protesters were demanding government’s action for the rescuing of the over 200 girls abducted from Government Secondary School, Chibok, Borno State, by the violent Islamic sect, Boko Haram, on April 14. Justice Abubakar Talba in his judgment ruled that the Police Order Act, Cap 382, Laws of Nigeria, 1990, “does authorise men of the Nigeria Police Force to disrupt rallies or possession on the issue of the abducted Chibok girls.” The judge also declared as illegal the act of the police disrupting the protest on the grounds that a prior police permit was not obtained. He agreed with the applicant (Melaye) that his arrest and the disruption of the protest caused him “unprecedented humiliation embarrassment” and amounted to a gross violation of his rights. Two days after his appointment as the new Emir of Kano, former CBN Governor,Alhaji Sanusi Lamido Sanusiis yet to resume duties at the Emir’s palace, in accordance with tradition. Sanusiwho was said to have been sneaked into the Government house to prevent him from being arrested before he was named the new Emir is still very much at the government house. The Police Command in Lagos State has arrested a 38-year-old man for allegedly being in possession of a fresh human head. The Public Relations Officer of the command, DSP Ngozi Braide, made the disclosure in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Wednesday in Lagos. She said that the man, name withheld, was arrested on Tuesday at Orile, Lagos by anti-robbery policemen, attached to the Orile Police Station. “The police team that arrested the suspect was led by one Insp. Bernard Oyinlade, while they were conducting a ‘stop and search’ operation near the white sand area of Orile. “The team stopped the man who was walking along the road with a polythene bag having suspected him and immediately called for a search. “He immediately took to his heels and was pursued. “He was arrested and during the searching of his bag, a suspected fresh human skull was found. “The suspect is undergoing interrogation. “He will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigations Department, Panti, Ya

According to a CNN report, Sepp Blatter faced a revolt from leading European football officials Tuesday over his intention to stand for re-election as FIFA president for a fifth four-year term from 2015. According to UEFA sources, Blatter, 78, told a meeting of the European football confederation in Sao Paulo that he would be seeking a further mandate. It reverses a pledge made in 2011 that he would not stand again and influential delegates at the meeting openly voiced their opposition to his U-turn. “The atmosphere was quite tense during and after Blatter’s short speech,” the sources told CNN. Suspected Boko Haram gunmen kidnapped at least 20 young mothers near a town in northeast of Nigeria where more than 200 schoolgirls were abducted nearly two months ago. News of the abduction came after gunmen from the militant group slaughtered hundreds of villagers in the north-east of the country. There were conflicting reports of how many women were abducted from the nomadic settlement near Chibok in Borno state, with one local leader putting the number as high as 40. The latest kidnappings, which happened on Saturday in and around the village of Garkin Fulani, five miles from Chibok, were the latest in a spate in the area. 'Available information revealed that the gunmen came around noon and abducted 20 women and three young men left to keep watch on the village,' said Alhaji Tar, of a local vigilante group. Three people were feared dead and scores of others injured in Kano when supporters of the first son of the late Emir of Kano and those of the former Central Bank of Nigeria Governor Lamido Sanusi clashed in the city on Monday. The clashes which were later brought under control by security operatives took place shortly before Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso presented Sanusi with a letter of appointment and staff of office as the Emir of Kano. Areas where the pro and anti-Sanusi protesters had a face-off at about 10.30am were the Emir Palace Road and Kofar Nassarawa. The youth made bornfires on the roads in Kofar Nassarawa and on both sides of the Emir Palace Road before heavily armed policemen arrived and dispersed them. According to a press release by the military yesterday, over 50 terrorists were killed in Borno.The terrorists who were on their way to attack selected communities were ambushed by troops along Bilta, Borno state on receiving intelligence report of the terrorists’ intention. Dapo Daniel Oyebanjo (popularly known as D’Banj) is a Nigerian singer/songwriter, Harmonica player and an entrepreneur. He was born June 9, 1980 in Zaria in the northern parts of Nigeria to a military father and a business/entrepreneurial mother.
