Saudi beheads murderer, 5th execution under new king

Image
Saudi Arabia on Sunday beheaded a convicted murderer, bringing to five the number of people executed since new King Salman took office, continuing the kingdom’s use of the harshest punishment. Abdelrahman al-Jahni, a Saudi, was convicted of shooting another man dead during a dispute, the interior ministry said in a statement carried by the official Saudi Press Agency. The sentence was carried out in the holy city of Medina. According to an AFP tally, Jahni is the latest of 17 locals and foreigners to be executed this year. Five have been beheaded since King Salman took office on January 23 after the death of his predecessor Abdullah. The interior ministry says the death penalty in such cases reflects the government’s commitment to “maintaining security, realising justice”. But the kingdom has faced constant international criticism over its human rights record, including the use of the death penalty. Under Abdullah, the number of executions jumped from 27 in 2010 to around 80 a

10 minutes of chewing gum can remove 100 MILLION bacteria from your mouth-study claims

Image
Y'all wondering if this can be true?. Of course!, it is so true according to researchers. See what UK mail got on it. Chewing gum has been found to remove harmful bacteria from mouths, according to a study. Researchers found that just a single piece of chewing gum can remove 100 million bacteria - 10 per cent of the microbial loadin saliva - in ten minutes. And they say that gum can be just as effective as flossing - although they each targets different areas of the mouth. The study, which appeared in the journal Plos One, was led by researchers from the University of Groningen in the Netherlands. They found that the gum was most effective in the first 30 seconds of chewing, and after that it would become less effective in trapping bacteria on a sliding scale. Also, they note that only gum that did not contain sugar was useful; if it did contain sugar, it could ‘feed’ oral bacteria. In one of their experiments, known numbers of bacteria were finger-chewed into the mouths o

A Kenyan school bus driver has died after drinking a 'truth potion' brewed by a witch doctor to prove he had not stolen books. School directors in a village in Kisii County hired the witch doctor to seek out the thief of school books, with the driver volunteering to drink the potion to prove he was innocent. 'The driver was dared... to prove his innocence by drinking the mixture,' local police chief Simon Kiragu told the Daily Nation newspaper. 'The 33-year old collapsed and died immediately after the drink.' Furious villagers then took revenge on school leaders by torching the school bus and the deputy director's house.
