ASUU kicks against FG’s scrapping of Post-UTME

The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, on Wednesday, kicked against the Federal Government’s directive for tertiary institutions to scrap the Post-Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, Post-UTME, for admission of candidates for the 2016/2017 academic session, saying the quality of tertiary education in the country could improve if the institutions are allowed to regulate their students admission process. ASUU President, Comrade Biodun Ogunyemi, said such freedom would enhance the quality of education. Recall that at a recent joint policy meeting to decide the cut off mark for students seeking admission into the universities, the government announced the scrapping of post-unified tertiary matriculation examination (UTME). The Post UTME is the second stage of screening usually conducted by universities for the final selection of candidates qualified for admission for an academic session. On Tuesday, the Mayor of Buenos Aires, the capital of Argentina, Horacio Rodriguez Larreta unveiled a Lionel Messi Statue as part of it's ‘Don’t Leave’ campaign to tempt Messi to reconsider his decision after the Argentina captain called time on his International career following the heartbreaking Copa America final defeat to Chile. Argentina President Mauricio Macri said he had spoken by telephone with Messi after he announced his shock retirement and was hoping to ripchange his mind.

Man dies in cinema while watching The Conjuring 2 and his body goes missing

A 65-year-old Indian man, Andhra Pradesh, died in a movie theatre last week while watching a screening of The Conjuring 2. The incident occurred at the Sri Balasubramaniar Cinema in Tiruvannamalai, a town in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. Pradesh, had complained of chest pains while watching the film, and fainted shortly afterwards. He was rushed to a nearby Old Government Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead. Medics ordered his body to be sent to the Tiruvannamalai Government Medical College Hospital for post-mortem but, according to the Times of India, his body, and the person charged with taking the body there, have both gone missing. While there are no doubt rational explanations for both the man’s death and the disappearance of his body, the story has fuelled a wave of supernatural panic on social media that has accompanied the film’s release. Primary School Gay Teacher Who Sexuality Assaulted 10 Pupils Is Jailed For 90 Years

A court has sentenced a primary school gay teacher to 90 years in prison after finding him guilty of sexually assaulting nine pupils. John Gichia Mugi, 23, was convicted of indecently assaulting 10 boys of Muthiria Primary School in Kiharu Constituency on various dates between January and May 2015. The court jailed him for nine years for each of the ten counts. The victims, aged between 13 and 16 years, had testified that the teacher, who was also their boarding master, would lure them and fondle their private parts after night preps as he kissed them. Resident Magistrate Jesse Masiga, who handed him the stiff sentence said the accused deserved a deterrent sentence, adding that every count attracted a jail term of nine years. The magistrate said the teacher had breached the trust bestowed on him by parents, adding that the offence was too heinous. “The prosecution had proved beyond reasonable doubt that you had sexually assaulted the boys,” Mr Masiga said. ‘I sentence you to ser

Lagos State Court Of Appeal Grants Ibinabo Bail

The Lagos state Court of Appeal has granted actress Ibinabo Fiberesima bailin the sum of N 2million and two sureties who are residents in Lagos in like sum. Her bail application was heard today April 7th. She was granted bail pending the outcome of her appeal at the supreme court.Ibinabo was sent to jail on March 11 by the state Court of Appeal after validating the 5 year jail term handed down to the actress by the state’s High court over the 2005 accident in which her car killed one Dr Giwa.
