Prof. Soyinka: Don’t Vote For Pres. Jonathan, He Has Been A Total Failure

Soyinka on Thursday declared that no one should vote for President Goodluck Jonathan, as his leadership has been a complete failure, according to Sahara Reporters. He reportedly made this declaration at the 2015 edition of Vision of the Child (VOTC) event in Lagos, a yearly programme inaugurated in 2012. Soyinka said to the students present: “I will not vote and I will not encourage anyone to vote for the continuation of this government, simply because your colleagues numbering over two hundred were kidnapped. And the government of this nation failed to show leadership. So anyone who says after that event that I will vote or cast my vote or encourage anyone to vote for this regime must be living in Sambisa forest… There has been a failure of leadership. Protest in Abuja Over Postponement of 2015 Poll

There were protests in Abuja on Thursday over the allegations that there was plan to shift the 2015 general elections while manipulating INEC. The protest according to report was organised by National Consensus Movement, a civic group. They commenced the protest from  the Unity Fountain, Maitama, with protesters marching in the directions of Eagle Square, a premium event centre in the nation’s capital. But as they filed past the Federal Secretariat, the protesters were blocked by officers of the Nigeria police. Not deterred, the protesters went on chanting, ” Election must hold, Election must hold.” The placard-carrying protesters said it was hard for anyone to believe that after heating up the polity, the government could resort to an attempt to postpone the already planned election. The national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party said it did not offer a bribe of N6bn to some Christian leaders for the purpose of helping President Goodluck Jonathan to win the February 14 presidential election. The PDP’s National Publicity Secretary, Mr. Olisa Metuh, spoke at a press briefing in Abuja on Wednesday,slamming Amaechi, who is also the Governor of Rivers State for his allegation Metuh said, “Pastors are revered people and to bring their character into .disrepute is a sin before God. NECO releases Nov/Dec 2014 SSCE result

National Examinations Council (NECO) has released the Nov/Dec 2014 SSCE results with remarkable departure from the past results recorded in the past years. Registrar/ Chief Executive of the Council, Professor Promise Okpala who announced the result in Minna yesterday said 52.94% of the candidates had Credit in English and 55.37% in Mathematics which is a tremendous improvement from the past years. The Registrar said, out of 63,445 that registered for the examinations, 61,386 eventually sat for the examinations with 30.57% recording Credits and above. A breakdown of results recorded in the core subjects shows that out of 53, 848 who sat for Biology 26,947 obtained pass with Credit which represents 50.04%. Also, out of 28,250 Candidates who sat for Chemistry,14,858 passed with Credit representing 51.62%, while 28,222 sat for Physics with 57 pass at Credit level which represents 0.20%. Similarly, 1,753 sat for Further Mathematics while 395 passed at Credit level representing22.53

In a leaked video from the party, the victim called Steven Donaldson seems to be the one who provocked the music star. But according to Donaldson, Diddy was slated to host a nightclub party Saturday evening, but didn’t show until 1:15 am. Then when he got there, he only hung out in VIP and rarely got onstage. Donaldson got pissed because he’d paid $100 to see Diddy . So he decided to confront the star. In the video obtained by TMZ, Donaldson is overheard rebuking Diddy multiple times before they end up face to face. Seven killed as New York train hits vehicle

A commuter train has hit a vehicle at a level crossing north of New York City, killing at least seven people and injuring 12, officials say. The train, with about 800 passengers on board, hit the Jeep Cherokee near Valhalla - about 20 miles (32km) from New York - on Tuesday evening. The vehicle's female driver was killed, along with six people on the train, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo said. The car and front carriage of the train caught fire following the crash. The packed commuter train had left Grand Central Station in New York City and was heading to Wassaic in south-east New York State. The crossing gates at the railroad had come down on top of the vehicle, which had stopped on the tracks, Metro-North Railroad spokesman Aaron Donovan said. The driver got out to look at the damage, and then got back into the car to drive forward before it was hit by the train. It pushed the vehicle more than 120m (400ft). It is not yet clear why the vehicle stalled on the tracks. A

Fire guts Kano Biggest Mobile Phone Village

A fire out break that started last night has destroyed Kano's most popular mobile phone village Farm Centre. Report says about 95% of the market has been affected and goods worth millions of naira are said to have been destroyed. Kano state fire service said the fire started about 2:am this morning possibly as a result of electrical spark from a shop in the market. The service calls on people to ensure they put off all electrical appliances before closing their places of business and also at home before going to bed to avoid such cases as many have been experienced in the past. President Jonathan has said he will do better when elected for a 2nd term. Speaking with traditional rulers in Kogi State before the presidential rally in Lokoja, President Jonathan said most governments worldwide perform better during the second term of their administrations. Vanguard reports.. According to the president, public office holders perform better during their second term because they have enough time to settle down and plan quickly. He said: “Whatever we have done in the last four years, we believe that we will even do more in the next four years. Most governments all over the world do better in their second tenure. “This is because the Presidents are more stable that time, especially in this two-term arrangement. They sit down and plan for the country and focus on key areas.”
