Two German nationals have lost their lives in Nigeria after being shot, a foreign ministry official has said. The victims, who were both engineers with construction company, Julius Berger were reportedly riding on a motorcycle in Abuja when they were gunned down. “Unfortunately we can confirm that two German nationals were killed in Nigeria last weekend,” a foreign ministry spokesman told AFP. “The German embassy in Abuja is seeking clarification and is in close contact with Nigerian authorities,” the spokesperson added. According to German newspaper, Ostseezeitung both victims, one aged 34 and the other in his mid-50s, had lived in Nigeria for years before their deaths last Saturday. Source Naijaloaded.

He said, as the President, he hears the cries and share the sorrow and pain of victims of insurgency that have been turned to widows and orphans by the terrorists and he would not abandon them. Jonathan made the commitment in his New Year message broadcast on radio and television networks. The President said, “We are re-equipping and re-positioning our armed forces to enhance their capacity to win the ongoing war against terror and insurgency. “Regrettably, terrorists have unleashed much pain and agony on our land. They have made widows of our mothers and sisters and orphans of our children. “They have shut down businesses, desecrated places of worship and brought untold hardship to both men and women. They have violated the culture and peaceful way of life in our country, which took generations to build.

An Abeokuta Magistrates’ Court remanded two men including a teenage boy, Dayo Akinola on Tuesday, for allegedly robbing a motorcyclist with a toy gun. Leadership newspaper covers the story: Akinola, 19, and his accomplice, Damilola Aroyeun, 23, are facing trial on a two-count of armed robbery and possession of firearms. The Magistrate, Mr Emmanuel Adekunte, who did not take the pleas of the accused, said they should be kept behind bars at Ibara Prisons pending advice from the State Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP). Earlier, the prosecutor, Insp. Augustine Ozimini told the court that the accused committed the offences on Dec. 8 at about 10.09 p.m. at Isale Abetu in the Ogun capital. He said the two accused robbed one Daniel Ogunseye of his motorcycle valued at N200,000 with a toy gun. “The duo accosted Ogunseye at a deserted area and threatened to shoot him with the toy gun if he failed to surrender his motorcycle to them.’’ The offences, the prosec
