The Central Bank of Nigeria said that the commemorative N100 banknote unveiled recently by the President, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan , is going into circulation from Friday. This is contained in a statement signed by Ibrahim Mu’azu , Head, Corporate Communications, on Friday in Abuja. It directed all branches of the bank to commence issuance of the currency in their respective locations. “The commemorative note will circulate alongside the existing N100 note. The note, which is embedded with features to assist the visually impaired recognise genuine notes, also has other security features easily identifiable through look, feel and tilt of the currency note,,” it said. It recalled that the CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele , at the unveiling of the new banknote, explained that it was designed with enhanced security to offer robust resistance against counterfeiting. According to Linda Ikeji's blog, The Ugandan maid who was secretly filmed beating, kicking and stamping on an18 months old baby has been sentenced to 4 years in prison for assault on a child. 22 year old Jolly Tumuhiirwe was sentenced this morning December 14th in a Kampala high court after pleading guilty to the crime of assault last week. The court dropped charges of torture which would have given her at least 10 years in prison!!!. Ounpe!!!

Governor Ibikunle Amosun has won the APC ticket to contest for the second time as a governor. The primary election was held at Abeokuta the state capital on Thursday having 3,861 votes. His Deputy, Mr. Adesegun Adesegun also declared his interest to contest for the governorship post under the platform of the Social Democratic Party. His deputy, Mr. Segun Adesegun, also declared his governorship ambition on Thursday on the platform of the Social Democratic Party.In the primary, which held under tight security, the governor polled 3,861 votes, in a contest where he is the sole aspirant. 193 prisoners out of the over 300 that escaped during the explosion that rocked the Federal Prison in Ado-Ekiti, the Ekiti statecapital on Sunday November 30th have been recaptured. Confirming their recapture, the state Prison’s spokesman, Mr Ope Fatinikun said the chase for other escapees was still on. He urged people in neighbouring states of Ondo, Kogi, Edo, Oyo and Kwara to be vigilant as some of the prisoners might want to take refuge in their community.
