Governor Ibikunle Amosun has won the APC ticket to contest for the second time as a governor. The primary election was held at Abeokuta the state capital on Thursday having 3,861 votes. His Deputy, Mr. Adesegun Adesegun also declared his interest to contest for the governorship post under the platform of the Social Democratic Party. 193 prisoners out of the over 300 that escaped during the explosion that rocked the Federal Prison in Ado-Ekiti, the Ekiti statecapital on Sunday November 30th have been recaptured. Confirming their recapture, the state Prison’s spokesman, Mr Ope Fatinikun said the chase for other escapees was still on. He urged people in neighbouring states of Ondo, Kogi, Edo, Oyo and Kwara to be vigilant as some of the prisoners might want to take refuge in their community.

Pope Francis was alongside the Grand Mufti side to side today and clasped his hands for a two minute silent prayer in the17th-century Sultan Ahmet mosque, aiming to show respect for Islam and encourage stronger ties between the two faiths.“May God accept it,”Rahmi Yaran, the Grand Mufti of Istanbul told the pope at the end of the prayer. The Emir of Kano, Muhammed Sanusi II who was out of Nigeria when the bomb blast at the Central Mosque in Kano occurred, arrived Nigeria today and went straight to the scene of the the attack to assess the situation.During his 20 minutes visit to the blast scene, the Emir said with the way the attacks were carried out, it showed it was well planned and had taken the perpetrators close to two months to plan it. “From all indications, they (attackers) have been planning this for at least two months.I have directed that the mosque be washed and cleaned and prayers should continue here.We will never be intimidated into abandoning our religion, which is the intention of the attackers” he said.
