Why Esu is not Satan + who he really is + others


It was 7 days ago from now (24- 12- 2016) when the Esu devotees or followers trooped out en- masse to give him (Esu) the walk he deserves all over the world by trying to correct the wrong perspective people view him from, saying the Yoruba Esu is the Bilical  Satan. 


Few days ago, I saw this article am about to share on Facebook and believe me, It has a positive impact on convincing the confused. See below:

INTRODUCTION
Silence should not be mistaken for consent, its a sweet medicine of the heart.
Generally speaking, the name "ESU" in relation to biblical satan and qu'ranic shitan has become a serious and controversial subject matter on social media and public domain in the recent time, which I can't just watch and keep mute, but air my voice on.

It was so serious that novice now asserts nonsense as knowledge, as if satan and ESU has the same conceptual and ideological origin coupled with their meanings. What must have caused this confusion about the identity of the two controversial beings? To ascertain that, one must endeavour to see through the eye of history, so as to cast out the ignorance blindness of our people, for clear understanding.

History teaches us that, more than four decades ago, a yoruba boy of age 13 named Ajayi was captured as slave in the ancient yorubaland, by the europeans, and eventually got trained as missionary after the abolition of slave trade. He translated English bible to yoruba language, with erroneous interpretation of many yoruba conceptual ideology to devilish and retrogressive foreign metaphor. For example, he interpreted satan to be synonymous with our own dear Esu. 


One will be tempted to ask , "what does a 13 year old boy know about Esu at that time when he is not a babalawo in training or son of an Awo? It must has been as a result of ignorance and ego of being the one who did the translation of bible to yoruba.

The mistake of Ajayi Crowther is still hurting traditionalist, and lovers of yoruba religion, and it must be corrected. To do the necessary, its not enough to chant Esu is not Satan, its important we tell the world who Esu really is.
WHO IS ESU?
Esu is not a ghost or falling angel, but an important Orisa in yoruba traditional religion. He was birthed by a woman named "Imin"(compass, oct17,2008). He is an administrator of justice,police officer of Orisa, who protect town and Awo against evil mechanisation. It most be noted that, Esu favours those that did the right thing(ebo). Eni ba rubo l'esu ngbe. He is the carrier of sacrifice from one Orisa to Another or Orisa to ajogun. Also, he do takes ebo from Earth to heaven. He is as strong as wall stone. With Esu, yoruba town has no reason to build wall of protection, he is wall of protection in itself.


Similarly, in the oral eulogy of Esu as encapsulated in holy Odu ose tura, it is crystal clear that Esu is the single most important Orisa in the establishment of new town in the ancient yorubaland. He is the one that ensures that Babalawo, Onisegun and adahunse of that town do not get starved, by providing them what to eat.

ESU AND SATAN
Unlike yoruba Esu, satan is a falling angel. Once glorified creature. He was not born of any human, but uses human to manifest its evil nature. He is a spirit that no mortal man has ever seen with there naked eye. It was only jesus as recorded in the bible, and its all happen spiritually. Yoruba has a name for such being prior to colonization, but not Esu. Its called Emi ibi (evil spirit), and whoever such a spirit possessed to operate, they call such a person eni ibi or eniyan ibi (evil person). Esu has the kind of food he do eat and the one he detest, which his devotee must not eat. Biblical satan is the head of evil principalities, and has controlling power over them, but Esu neither have nor exercise such power. He is a persuasive Orisa.

ESU AND NAMES IN YORUBALAND.
Prior to the emergence of Christianity and Islam in yorubaland, yoruba's believe that the name to be given to a new born baby have a serious influence in his or her life, and the name is determined by the situation at the home of the childs parent. Hence, a child that is born into Ifa devotee house is likely to be given a name with ifa as an attachment. Eg ifaleke, ifamakinde, ifashola and Esu is not an exemption. Eg esugbemi, esudele etc. It would interest you to note that those that are bearing names with Esu do not act delvishly, but am yet to see anyone bearing names with satan or shitan.

ESU , THREE FOOT PATH AND IT WORSHIP POINT IN YORUBALAND.
Esu is not just an Orisa that can be venerated by anyone , at anywhere, but three foot path is it abode. Hence, Esu laalu ogiri oko. Onile orita. In the ancient yorubaland, the worship point of Esu is also called Ojubo- point of feeding Esu. It is usually at the centre of the town. For example, the feeding point of Esu in surulere , Lagos is located in an area now called Ojubo Elegbaa bastardized as Ojuelegba, while that of ile ife is at ilare. Hence, we call Esu at that point Esu Ilare. Biblical and Qu'ranic satan do not have such.

ESU AND FOREIGN RELIGION
There is no persecution that is greater than the one being melted by the Yoruba's and their ignoramus friends, who lack understanding of the person of Orisa Esu. He is a successful servant of Olodumare, but equate with an anti God being. He is loved by those that knows it worth, and love is its way. They think they are destroying his person, but unaware of the implication in their lives. Ida ahun ni npa ahun won.
CONCLUSION
Having critically examine the person of Esu from different perceptive, I want to believe have been able contribute the body of knowledge about Esu and convince you and not to confused you that Esu is not satan.
